When looking for a Dodge shadow, you must be familiar with the different options that were offered on the car so that you can decide which Dodge Shadow is right for you. If you can narrow down your search by a few aspects, finding the right Dodge Shadow will be easier. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Step by Step : 1 Decide what year you would like your Dodge Shadow to be. Different years offer different two- and four-door options. There was also an option for a Carol Shelby Competition Shadows. These were backed by Carol Shelby and distinguishable by the C/S badge on the front fender. The Shelby edition was only offered in 1986, 1988 and 1991. 2 Pick the engine option you prefer. Many different engine options were offered on the Dodge Shadow including turbo and non-turbo engines. The America trim package was offered in 1991 and 1992 and was a stripped down version of the base model. The Shadow ES was offered all years of production and was merely a different paint and decal option. It took the place of the Plymouth Duster. Removing the starter motor yourself saves you the time and money of having a mechanic remove it for you. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Open-end wrench Wood block Floor jack Jack stand Socket wrench set Step by Step : 1 Unfasten the negative battery cable of the vehicle from the battery post with an open-end wrench. Place a wood block behind one of the rear tires to keep the vehicle from rolling. 2 Lift the front passenger side of the vehicle with a floor jack and place a jack stand under the jack point along the frame rail nearest the front passenger side of the vehicle. Lower the floor jack to allow the vehicle to sit on the jack stand, and move the floor jack out of the way. 3 Locate the starter motor under the engine. On most vehicles it will be mounted against the transmission housing. It's a cylindrical component, generally in a steel housing that's about 8 inches long and not quite as wide. Detach the electrical wires connected to the starter with a socket wrench, taking the nuts off the starter posts and moving the wires out of the way. 4 Unfasten the bolts that are securing the starter motor to the transmission housing with a socket wrench. Slide the starter motor off the bolts by hand and remove it from under the engine compartment. Be careful; it's heavy.
